Luis Heredia

Luis Fernando Heredia, better known to his friends
as "Limao", is a Brazilian native of Rio de Janeiro. Luis
began his martial art / Jiu-Jitsu training when he was 16 years old.
After several years of studying and searching; he found both the perfect
school and instructor, "The Rickson Gracie Academy of Jiu-Jitsu
in Rio de Janeiro". This is the beginning of his rigorous training
and competition in the major Jiu-Jitsu events that are so popular
in Brazil today. When his instructor Rickson moved to the United States
in 1989, Luis, then a purple belt followed him. Assisting in teaching
at Rickson’s West Los Angeles Academy as well as numerous seminars
nationwide; Luis was very instrumental in helping promote Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu in the United States. In 1995, after having to perform numerous
tasks and overcome challenges presented to him during the birth of
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) in America; he was the first to be awarded
Black Belt in the U.S.. Having worked with Rickson for so many years,
Professor Heredia now runs his own academy in Maui, Hawaii, still
supporting his mentor through the Rickson Gracie American Jiu-Jitsu
Association. Prof. Heredia style of Jiu-Jitsu is very complete and
versatile; where he can adjust his instruction for any type of situation,
competition, self-defense or general conditioning. His dedication
and passion to the art of Jiu-Jitsu is respected by the Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu community all over the world.
